During September of 2024, in Austin, Texas, I was surprised to receive a phone call from England. The caller, Michael Frankel, excitedly told me that he finally understood the amazing correlation that I’d described in two of my books, Tao of Chaos and Tao of Life.

In those two books, I’d shown how an approximately 3,000-year-old Chinese document known in English as The I Ching develops a complex binary number system by using just a yin line to represent 0 and a yang line to represent 1.

The yin and yang lines representing 0 and 1 can then bond by threesomes to form eight different trigrams, and each trigram describes its own unique chaos pattern.

Those eight trigrams can then even pair-bond into 64 different hexagrams of six lines each, and each hexagram describes its own unique co-chaos pattern.

All 64 hexagrams describe 64 different co-chaos patterns that can actually be correlated with a far more recent discovery made by humans: the genetic code, which was deciphered in a series of events spanning the 1950s and 1960s.

The I Ching hexagrams and the genetic code describe parallel systems of co-chaos. The two systems echo each other in both their mathematical structures and in their effective results.

When Michael told me over the phone about his new chart of correlations, I excitedly asked him to email me his chart and its explanation so that I could post them both in a webpage on my website. Michael soon sent me his chart, along with the correspondence that appears below:

I’ve had a copy of Dr. Katya Walter’s mind-blowing book “Tao of Chaos” for about 20 years. I especially loved the idea explored in the last two chapters of that book’s Section Two. It’s the idea that the I Ching’s 64 hexagrams have a one-to-one relationship with the 64 three-letter codons that form DNA and RNA.

But whilst I really liked the end results, such as seeing the Stop codon (“UGA”) mapped to Hexagram 12 Standstill, I could not come to grips with the shared method behind those correspondences.

Then, while housebound due to recovering from a recent operation, I decided to revisit Dr. Walter’s ideas in her more recent book, “Tao Of Life.” This time, it felt different. It clicked.

I finally understood how the book revealed the crucial concept in mapping hexagrams to DNA or RNA codons. It’s this: rather than just looking at the six individual lines of each hexagram, you must also view its two trigrams as three pairs of relating, interacting lines.

In other words, view each hexagram as two trigrams whose line-pairings interrelate. In each hexagram, its bottom Line 1 in the lower trigram relates to Line 4 in its upper trigram. Next, Line 2 in the lower trigram relates to Line 5 in the upper trigram. Likewise, Line 3 in the lower trigram relates to Line 6 in the upper trigram.

Realizing that was as if a key had turned in a lock. So I made a spreadsheet using the notation of 0 for a Yin line and 1 for a Yang line. This enabled me to utilize a formula (exactly in accordance with the method described in the book) to convert any hexagram into its corresponding DNA codon. Similarly, I could map any hexagram to its corresponding mRNA hexagram.

It’s hard to describe the wonderful feeling when my results matched exactly with those tables inside “Tao Of Chaos!”
